Our Ingredients

Our products are made with high-quality natural vegetable oils and fats that have been carefully selected to create a beautiful bar of soap that is beneficial for your skin. We do not use palm oil and, with the exception of the pure honey and beeswax used to make the Honeycomb salt soap, all our ingredients are vegan. We are against animal testing and always make sure that the ingredients that we use are sourced from producers who are committed to animal welfare.

Unrefined sea salt

Unrefined sea salt is harvested from evaporated ocean water. Because of its high mineral and trace element content, unrefined sea salt is a wonderful ingredient with many skin caring properties. Did you know that unrefined sea salt contains more than 80 naturally occurring minerals and trace elements?

Since salt binds moisture, using salt soap significantly reduces the need to use moisturising creams and lotions. The natural exfoliating properties of salt will help remove dead skin cells and make your skin look and feel smoother and silkier. The minerals and trace elements contained in the salt nourish the skin and often reduce inflammation, flakiness and itchiness. If you suffer from eczema, psoriasis or other skin conditions, using soap with unrefined sea salt may relieve some of the symptoms. Additionally, naturally antiseptic salt effectively neutralises bacteria-induced body odours and removes impurities from the skin, reducing the appearance of spots and breakouts.

Onnenpussi soap is made with unrefined, solar evaporated sea salt that is dried in the sun without any artificial heat or chemical additives. Due to the natural drying method, the salt retains its natural minerals and trace elements that are good for you and your skin.

Rapeseed oil

The Finnish rapeseed oil used in the soap is rich in omega-3 fatty acids. Both gentle and moisturising, rapeseed oil has antibacterial and anti-inflammatory properties that can help soothe dry or irritated skin.

Olive oil

Olive oil is a natural source of vitamin E, which helps to balance the skin and accelerate skin recovery and the regeneration of skin cells. Olive oil is suitable for all skin types, but due to the its skin caring and moisturising properties, it is especially recommended for sensitive skin. Olive oil contains antioxidants and antibacterial properties that may help in the treatment of dry, rough or inflamed skin.

Coconut oil

Onnenpussi uses coconut oil in its soap because of the lovely lather it produces and the hardness it adds to the soap. In addition to this, coconut oil is rich in fatty acids that cleanse, moisturise and gently nourish the skin. Suitable for all skin types, coconut oil is perfect for soothing and regenerating dry, flaky or sensitive skin.

Castor oil

Rich in antioxidants and fatty acids, such as ricinoleic acid, castor oil has been used in the treatment of various skin conditions, including psoriasis and eczema, for decades. Due to its anti-inflammatory and moisturising properties, castor oil is especially suitable for dry, sensitive and mature skin.

Shea butter

Shea butter is a vegetable fat extracted from the nut of the African shea tree. The concentration of natural vitamins and fatty acids in shea butter makes it incredibly nourishing and gentle on the skin, while adding a touch of luxury to any bar of soap.

Cocoa butter

Rich in antioxidants and fatty acids, cocoa butter soothes, softens and protects the skin. Cocoa butter can improve skin elasticity and is commonly used to treat dry, chapped skin and can help smooth scars, wrinkles and stretch marks.

Birch sap

Birch sap is a clear liquid that is extracted from birch trees during spring, before the leaves begin to bud. The appearance and smell of fresh birch sap resembles water, and it tastes mildly sweet. Birch sap contains up to a dozen minerals, including potassium, calcium, magnesium and manganese, as well as vitamin C, AHA acids, proteins and enzymes.

Birch sap is ideal for skin care due to its regenerating, softening and moisturising properties.

The birch sap used in the Sauna & Birch Sap Soap on a Rope is collected during spring from a clean and pristine private forest in Eastern Finland. To ensure freshness, the birch sap is frozen immediately after collection, and used in soap making throughout the year.

Honey

Honey is a humectant, which helps your skin absorb and retain moisture. It is also a natural antiseptic, packed with antioxidants, plant extracts and enzymes, which help protect, repair and prevent skin damage. The beautiful, nourishing honey used in the Onnenpussi soaps is produced locally, next door to our soap studio.

Beeswax

Beeswax nourishes, protects and soothes the skin while making it silky soft.

Pure peat

Nordic peat has been known for its many beneficial health qualities for centuries. Rich in fulvic acid, the Finnish peat used in our soap products deep-cleanses, relaxes and nurtures the skin.

Essential oil

Essential oils are rapidly evaporating aromatic compounds that are obtained from the leaves, stems, roots, flowers and fruits of plants and trees. Essential oils are used to add natural fragrance to our soap bars, as well as for their anti-inflammatory and antibacterial properties.

Fragrance oil

The carefully selected fragrance oils used by Onnenpussi are high-quality soap fragrances that have been approved for cosmetic use.

Colourant

The gorgeous, delicate shades in our soaps are created using carefully selected cosmetic-grade colourants. For example, the white colourant is the same one that is used when manufacturing toothpaste.

Vitamin E

The vitamin E used in Onnenpussi soaps is derived from wheat germ. Vitamin E occurs naturally in wheat germ and is a powerful antioxidant that helps to protect skin from the damage caused by solar radiation and air pollution, for example.
